8:00 am and we were barreling down the highway. Our Honda Pilot packed efficiently for optimal comfort, two very excited kids in the back, and two equally excited, slightly apprehensive adults in the front. Our major road trip underway.
(At a rest area near the CA/NV border.)
Several gas and potty stops, a horrible coffee from Dutch Bros, watching Aladdin on the DVD player, listening to the first several hours of J.R.R Tolkien's The Hobbit, and nine hours later we pulled up to our hotel in Reno. After "oohing" and "aahing" from the kids (they don't stay in hotels too often), we settled into our room and picked a pizza place to go to.
Mountain Mike's Pizza was starred on a phone app as being "delicious pizza" and it certainly was. However, we were the only ones there on a Friday night. Odd. It made me nervous. But then the pizza came out, it was very tasty. Still odd. So we discussed the possibilities of why the place was like a ghost town and the only reason we could come up with is that there were two people working there. Can you imagine if there had been a restaurant full of families and groups all waiting for two people to do everything?! Yeah, we could and that would be a huge turn off. Thank goodness we were the only ones!
It was there and then that Gideon started to really complain about a headache and not feeling well. Before we could finish our meal, he left behind whatever lunch he had left in his tummy. Thank goodness he made it to the restroom first. Poor thing. His all-day-excitement of playing in the hotel's pool was instantly dashed. And as I finish this post, he is curled up on the bed next time while his little sister enjoys the pool with Mike. Not the evening of fun any of us anticipated...at least we get to watch the new season of Whale Wars.
Tomorrow we head to Las Vegas. Unless the entire family is huddled up in the hotel restroom with the flu.
