HMS Ravioli

Another date and another dinner.  We had originally thought of going to Macaroni Grill but by the time we got to Bridgeport and saw various restaurants we hadn't been to, we ditched the plan! Mike and I love to try new places and Pastini Pastaria looked like a good choice. And it was!

We waited about 20 minutes, which didn't seem bad at all considering it was a Friday night. The waiting area (no cheap trinkets in sight!) was small so many people were forced to stand outside and look at the lucky few who got seats in the AC. They kept people moving though and before long those forlorn onlookers were able to snag seats inside.

We started with the polenta appetizer. Four squares of the cornbread with amazingly potent parmesan cheese melted on the top with marinara sauce. I wasn't sure if Mike would like it since he never seems too jazzed about cornbread (maybe I am completely wrong about that) but he was the first to say it was good. He might have even enjoyed it more than me. By the time I got to my second square I was ready for my entree. It's not that the polenta wasn't good, it just wasn't as flavorful as I thought it could have been. The parmesan on top was definitely it's saving grace.

Mike got Manicotti stuffed with seafood. Personally, I might have been a little hesitant to order seafood after our last experience, but not Mike! And it was a great choice. Tender pasta with succulent shrimp and white fish, done to perfection.

My choice was the butternut squash-gorgonzola ravioli with toasted hazelnuts in sage browned butter. It was to die for! Next time I will ask for less butter as my pillows of ravioli looked like little ships floating on my plate. Definitely not for the faint of heart, or those looking to maintain a good cholesterol level. I grimaced and then dug in without another thought. Sometimes, one has to overlook possible heart attack to enjoy a plate of pure tasty goodness. And then go run 6 miles as penance.
