Golden Valley Goodness

Wow. I never thought I would live to experience a local brewery that rivals McMenamin's beer but I think I have. Gasp. Then again, maybe it's just me needed to get out more, but I kind of doubt that. I will admit that I am very select in my beer choices. I have a "girly" palate when it comes to beer. No shame anymore. I've gotten over that. If I am going to down that many calories it better be something worthwhile! However, usually Mike is with me and he is definitely a "man's man" when it comes to his choices. The darker the better for him! So we get the best of both worlds when we go out and we get to experience twice the amount of drinks and food! And perhaps one of these days my taste buds will mature and grow to enjoy the bitter brews. Hey, I used to strongly dislike most wine, and now look at me go!

So where is this place, you ask? It's none other than McMinnville's own Golden Valley Brewery! They have an amazing selection of beer made right there (hurray for the blanche). In fact, as you nosh on a fantastic meal (I recommend the Brewer's Bavarian Pork Sandwich, though I know a few guys who will rave about the meatloaf) you can observe, through large windows, the goings-on in the brewery part of the pub.

The building is dark and rustic, the woodwork beautiful and distinctly northwestern. And even though it is a pub, the restaurant is large enough, with table and booths well-spaced. No crammed accidental jostling here!

Of course, the part I liked even more than the beer (sigh) was dessert. The warm Irish Stout Gingerbread with Rum Cream was beyond delicious. I thought it was the perfect end to any dining experience, though maybe a tad more appropriate in the fall and winter months. Something that delectable must be available year round and I am glad they have it on the regular menu! Needless to say, I will be heading back for drinks and dessert, though the local meet selections will probably call my name too!
