We also took the Traveling Sweatshirt picture, to continue on with that tradition. I often wonder why in the world we chose to start this ritual when all the places we choose to visit are hot. Donning the sweatshirt borders on torture when on an island close to the equator. Rain or no rain. When we came back to our beach we decided to get a volleyball game going and were joined by the Jersey group and Jeff and Lindsey. By the time we were into the game the sun decided to play too. We were so happy to see that our last day of vacation wouldn’t all be dreary and overcast! We thoroughly enjoyed happy hour on the beach, strawberry mango daiquiris! When that ended we went to the pool and enjoyed happy hour there! We ran into the IN couple again, utilized the slide, and then had dinner at the resort at Las Ramblas for a Land and Turf meal. Afterward we relaxed in the hot tub one last time and met a couple from North Carolina and a family from Colombia. It was in chatting with the couple from NC, who have been to Aruba over 6 times, that we discovered the purpose of the little statues that littered the coastline. Apparently if you build one and return to it you will have good luck. But if you remove a stone and take it you will have horrible luck. Their friend took a stone home and his wife got MS. We spent some time chatting about the fact that everyone gets “bad luck” at some point and little stones don’t determine that. I then realized in “horror” that as I had built one, Mike had turned and knocked one over! He put it back to together but after hearing the good luck/bad luck theory we wondering if perhaps the building and knocking down canceled each other out. Of course, if we were to believe in such folklore. We were finally kicked out of the hot tub at past closing time and with much trepidation we made our way back to the studio to pack. Our week of sun, fun, adventure, and relaxation was coming to completion.

Aruba – Day 7
Our last day on the island and we had planned to do absolutely nothing. So it was very disappointing to say the least when we got all comfy under a palapas on the beach with lounge chairs and magazines and books and it started to rain. And rain. And rain. The locals said it was very unusual for such rain to happen and we did not feel particularly special to be witness to it. At least it wasn’t cold! We stayed somewhat dry under the protection of our little hut and then started chatting with the group in front of us. They were from the Jersey shore. Two of them had just wed and the whole group was together on the honeymoon! They mentioned that the weather must be doing something to the sea life because they saw all sorts of huge fish right on the shore. So Mike and I grabbed the camera and headed down the beach. The light rain stopped while we trekked and though we weren’t able to get any pictures (too bad we didn’t bring our snorkel gear!) we saw hundreds of fish, large and small, as well as stingrays. We watched as the schools of fish darted here and there, looking like grey clouds in the water.
